Abstract

Since 2008, Law no. 11,794 / 2008 on the use of vertebrate animals in scientific and didactic activities in national territory was established. This project aims to evaluate the knowledge and compliance of this law among students and research supervisors of UNIFESP, with the main objective of demonstrating the need for greater awareness of these norms within the university environment. In this regard, questionnaires will be used contemplating articles of Law no. 11,794 / 2008 and its application in the daily life of students from UNIFESP (Campus São Paulo), with the intention of evaluating the content of bioethics in the use of animals among the research supervisors of the Institution. The questionnaires will be made available online to the Medicine and Biomedicine undergraduate students. It is expected that the possible result of low knowledge of ethical standards by most participants may be reversed with interference such as refresher courses for research supervisors. These results, in conjunction with the fact that few in-depth scientific materials have been found on Brazilian animal bioethics, denote a scientific society lacking knowledge of this information. Thus, considering that UNIFESP is a renowned research center, it is possible to infer, from the results, a national panorama on legislation in animal ethics. (AU)
