Abstract

The aquatic ecosystem receives constantly industrial, agricultural and urban effluents, which cause many problems for the ecosystems and to human health. The cemeteries have stood out as an environmental pollution source due to the production of liquid called slurry derived from bodies decomposition. This liquid is constituted of water, mineral salts, inorganic and organic substances. Among these substances, it is possible to find the biogenic amines cadaverine (C5H14N2) e putrescine (C4H12N2). These amines are important to physiological functions of the organisms but, in high concentration, they are considered toxic. Thus, the present project aims to evaluate the cytotoxic, genotoxic and mutagenic potential of different associations of both amines, by the chromosomal abnormalities test and by the micronucleus test in meristematic cells and F1 cells of Allium cepa. The obtained results will allow to estimate the cytogenotoxic potential of the mixture of these two amines, as well as clarify the mode of action over the genetic material of the exposed organism.
