Abstract

The skin is an organ with a variety of functions in the body and is made up of the epidermis, dermis and hypodermis. In the epidermis occurs the keratinization that consists of the process of continuous renewal of the cells of the epidermis that lasts approximately 22 days and creates along the path keratin filaments. The keratinization disorders may be congenital or acquired and the clinical signs presented by this disorder are considered as a common complaint in the veterinary clinical routine. Topical treatment is vitally important for the improvement of these clinical signs and emollient shampoos are used for this purpose. Therefore, the objective of this study is to evaluate the presence and location of inflammation through the expression of cyclooxygenase-2 and macrophages in cutaneous samples of dogs with different skin diseases, as well as evaluate the collagen fibers, comparing the pre-treatment samples and post-treatment with the oligosaccharide-based shampoo of the Pansy Flower and Spiraea ulmaria.
