Abstract

While studying the history of Japanese detective fiction, it is impossible not to recognize the strong western influences from where the genre was once imported. Nevertheless, at the same time, it is undeniable that there is a characteristically Japanese sensibility, from its narrated situations to its literary structure. As such, the proposed thesis aims to analyze whether Edogawa Rampo (1894-1965) was successful in placing the genre in the intersection between Japanese tradition and the modern import, assimilating and adapting the western genre to his repertoire and how can these works be translated without betraying the puzzle concocted by the author.
