Abstract

The Paranapanema Pontal is a conflictive territory, composed of vacant and grabbed lands, source of disputes between landowners, business groups of sugarcane agro-hydro-business and movements for agrarian reform. The process of sugarcane expansion in the region led to the "enclosure" of the settlements by the cane plantations. Due to several difficulties or, even, to obtain resources for improvement of the lot itself, seated workers have sought employment in sugarcane mills. Currently, the sugarcane harvesting process is at an advanced stage of mechanization, therefore, these workers can act in the most varied functions as tractors, harvester operators, drivers, among others. In this research, we aimed to understand the implications for settlers´ health who work in sugarcane mills, in this current phase of productive process restructuring, taking into account the intensification and precarious forms of work in sugarcane industry.
