Abstract The Upper Airway Resistance Syndrome is a sleep related breathing disorder characterized by increased respiratory effort episodes, multiple arousals, fatigue and excessive daytime sleepiness. Its treatment is not well established yet.The research purpose is to analyze oral appliance adherence as Upper Airway Resistance Syndrome treatment and the predictive factors associated to it. The Oral Appliance adherence will be compared to the placebo's.Thirty patients with Upper Airway Resistance Syndrome will be selected from Sleep Breathing Disorder ambulatory and randomized into 2 groups: Oral Appliance and placebo. Patients will perform questionnaires (Epworth Sleepiness Scale, Modified Fatigue Impact Scale - MFIS, Beck Anxiety and Depression Inventories - BAI and BDI, Insomnia Severity Index, Lipp test and sleep diary) before and 6 months after treatment (oral appliance or placebo).Adherence will be evaluated subjectively (Adherance diary).Statistical analysis will be performed using SPSS software (version 21.0 for Windows). GLM repeated measures (General Linear Model) will be used to compare variables results before and after 6 months of treatment. Linear and logistic regression will be used to verify the predictive factors in treatment adherence. | |
