Abstract

Periodontitis is a multifactorial disease that affects the periodontal tissue, due to the microbial action and innate and adaptive immune response. The most used treatments are scaling and non-surgical root planing, associated or not with the use of antimicrobials. However, new therapies have been tested, some still in experimental models, focusing on host response modulation. Some microorganisms bring benefits to the health of humans because they produce antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory effects, the called probiotics. Dead microorganisms have also been used as health promoting agents, and they are termed paraprobiotics. The objective of this work will be to evaluate the effects of the L. paracasei (strain 28.4) on its viable, inactivated and supernatant form in Galleria mellonella when infected by P. gingivalis. For this, the survival curve and the hemocyte density, after infection with P. gingivalis and the preparations of L. paracasei, will be evaluated. Finally, the data will be analyzed with the appropriate statistical test, adopting a level of significance of 5%. (AU)
