Evaluation of peroxide presence in saliva in at-home bleaching: randomized clinical trial.

Abstract

The aim of this study is to evaluate the presence of peroxide in saliva in the at-home bleaching systems with prefilled whitening trays and conventional fabricated trays in a randomized clinical trial. Sixteen volunteers will participate in the study after signing a free and informed consent form. The volunteers will be randomly divided in two groups: conventional fabricated trays filled with 10% hydrogen peroxide (HP) and prefilled whitening trays with 10% hydrogen peroxide. The whitening treatment will be accomplished 1x/day, during 30 min for HP. During the treatment, saliva samples will be collected in seven times (0, 1 min; 5 min; 15 min; 31 min; 35 min; and 45 min). The saliva samples will be submitted to photometric analysis based on aminoantiprin reaction for peroxidase activity measurement using a spectrophotometer. Data will be collected for each volunteer at each stage and means will be submitted to appropriate statistical analysis, considering the significance level of 5%.
