Abstract

This project has as main objective to comprehend the musical writings in two of Edino Krieger's solo piano pieces, Epigramas and 3 Miniaturas, through musical analysis, in the aspects of the twelve-tone techniques structures, the atonality, form, rhythm, harmony and texture. The pieces were composed between the years of 1947 and 1952, time when Edino Krieger, 1 - was part of the Música Viva group, under the guidance of H. J. Koellreutter, experiencing the twelve-tone technique of composition; and 2 - has studied (between 1948 and 1949) with Aaron Copland, Darius Milhaud and Peter Menin in the United States of America. The hypothesis that will guide the work are: 1 - does the pieces make use of the twelve-tone technique? 2 - are there differences in the treatment of musical material before and after Edino's studies at the USA? A previous analysis revealed that the pieces are atonal, possibly with the use of twelve-tone rows; having pontillistic and/or counterpontual texture, melodic figurations with motivic development and simetry. As musical analysis methodologies, it will be used the books by Brindle (1996), Eimert (1973) and Cook (1992), that serves as models and brings tools for analyzing twelve-tone music. It also intends to experience the musical writing by composing a solo piano miniature from the data collected with the Edino's pieces analysis. The expected results are the final research report, with the musical analysis results; participation in scientific congresses to disclose the results; and the composition of a solo piano miniature piece.
