Abstract

In the current technological conjuncture where the fourth industrial revolution is announced as the Industry 4.0, the access to more sophisticated design and production methods is more and more a reality in the manufacturing environment. Concepts such as "cloud computing" leverage the possibility of handling large amounts of data remotely, abstaining the user from possessing a powerful computational apparatus. However, the market for the production of musical instruments does not appear to benefit from these advances satisfactorily. This PIPE/FAPESP Phase 1 project proposes the feasibility analysis of a computer-assisted musical instrument design concept. In this interdisciplinary environment, the possibility of advanced quantitative assessments, such as vibration and failure analyses, is of great interest in ensuring the quality, agility and reliability of production. In addition, the sound synthesis performed by a computational model can provide the designer with sound aspects of the instrument a priori, avoiding waste of time and material. Nevertheless, these analyzes, and especially the sound synthesis, require a high computational effort. In this project, we propose a remote server responsible for perform the processes along with a web user interface for the design and evaluation of the results. The methods of analysis and simulation should be validated experimentally while the realism of the synthetized sounds will be subjected to psychometric tests. (AU)
