Abstract

This project aims to reconstruct the paleoclimate of the last glacial and interglacial periods through assembly of proxies obtained on the study of speleothems collected in caves from Brazil. For it, will be used stalagmites previously dated with an isotopic record that cover the last ~33 thousand years in high resolution from mid-west Brazil, as well, unexplored samples from this and other regions of the country. Based on the construction of the new palaeoclimatic records, we aim to investigate the regional and temporal variability of climate and its relationship with the biodiversity and biogeography. Particular emphasis will be given, among others, to the response of summer monsoon to the climate forcing induced by both the summer insolation linked to the precessional cycle (19 to 23 thousand years) and the millennial-scale changes in ocean circulation (which have a mean duration of one to three thousand years), it includes the events: Dansgaard-Oeschers and Heinrichs. These forcing can change profoundly the climate conditions over the continents and oceans, due to large-scale changes in atmospheric circulation in South America and worldwide. (AU)
