Relationship between hip extensors strength and sagittal plane trunk and lower limbs biomechanics during single-leg vertical jump landing phase

Abstract

Patellofemoral Pain (PFP) is one of the most common knee joint affections particularlyin females and the hip muscles weakness has been considered a possible factor to developor progress this dysfunction. Hip muscle strengthening has been observed like aneffective treatment to reduce pain and increase function in PFP patients but withoutknowledge about how this procedure changes PFP correlated factors like patellofemoralstress magnitude. Thus, the aim of the study is to evaluate the correlation between hipextensor isometric strength and the sagittal plane trunk position, sagittal plane hip andknee moments and the patellofemoral stress during the landing phase of a Single-legvertical jump. 15 health recreational athletes will be recruited. The hip extensorsmaximum isometric strength will be assessed by a Lafayette Manual Muscle Test Systemmanual dynamometer (Lafayette Instruments, Lafayette, IN, USA). For the kinematic andkinetic capture and analysis during the Single Leg Drop Vertical Jump landing phase theVicon (Vicon Motion Systems Ltd, Oxford) capture and analysis system and the AMTIForce and Motion (Modelo OPT400600HF-2000) force plate will be used. For thecorrelation statistics analysis, the Pearson correlation coefficient (in case of data normaldistribution) or Spearman will be used (alpha-0,05). (AU)
