Abstract

This project proposes an analysis of the Teixeira e Sousa's novel O Filho do Pescador, from the perspective of the social history of literature. Published in the conservative periodical O Brasil, in 1843, the novel establishes an intense dialogue with it's historical moment - standing out the armed conflicts emerging all over the territory, besides the crisis generated by the disputes between the newly formed Liberal and Conservative Parties. For instance, the research will try to demonstrate that, in a reinterpretation of the Liberal Revolts of 1842, Teixeira and Sousa presented fictional solutions to the processes that echoed throughout 1843, especially in the judgment of the Sao Paulo and Minas Gerais rebels. The newspaper O Brasil, available in the Digital Library of the National Library, is the main source of the research and will be read in conjunction with the bibliography on the subject. (AU)
