Abstract

Heritage Charters are documents created by international organizations which define basic concepts and set guidelines concerning conservation, preservation and restoration of cultural heritage. The cultural heritage of a people is extremely important to Tourism activities, since cultural assets constitute tourist attractions. As part of a wider project, developed in the Tourism Undergraduate Program of São Paulo State University (UNESP), which aims to study the terminology of areas related to Tourism, the objective of this work is to identify terms in a set of Heritage Charters in English and find their equivalents in Portuguese and Spanish. The research will be based on a trilingual parallel corpus, that means, a set of original texts accompanied by their respective translations. For this, Heritage Charters will be collected and, in sequence, only charters published in the three languages of the study will be selected and included in the corpus. Terms and contexts extraction will be carried out by means of the lexical analysis software WordSmith Tools 6.0. For a specifically selected context, in which a term occurs, the corresponding contexts in the other two languages will be found. Data collected will be inserted in terminological records. The research follows the theoretical and methodological foundations of Communicative Theory (CABRÉ, 1993; 1999) and Corpus Linguistics (BERBER SARDINHA, 2000; 2004). (AU)
