Abstract Algae are present in almost all aquatic environments, making them one of the most characteristic organisms on Earth. In the last years, several applications have been proposed, among them, the use in agriculture as biofertilizer and in the tertiary treatment of the sewage. In a scenario of increasing food demand and reduced soil fertility due to the indiscriminate use of synthetic fertilizer, microalgae appear as a healthier and more sustainable possibility for agricultural activity. In this context, the present research aims to experimentally study ways to optimize the production of the Chlorella sorokiniana microalgae in a flat panel photobioreactor (FBR), using simulated black waters (sanitary sewage and swine manure). Besides, the harvesting of the biomass generated, using natural and synthetic coagulants, through coagulation, flocculation, flotation , and centrifugation. The research proposes to foment the discussion about the use of biomass as fertilizer, valuing wastewater as a source of nutrients, in a country that stands out in the global scenario in the sale of commodities.
