Abstract

Studies involving the planning, synthesis and characterization of iron, copper and/or manganese complexes containing 1,2,4-triazole-like ligands will be developed. These ligands will be obtained by commercial sources or synthesized and then used to complex with metal ions. The coordination compounds will be obtained in room temperature and pressure, by solvothermal means or even microwave assisted. Efforts will be drawn to obtaining single crystals to determine the structure by X-ray diffraction. The isolated materials will be characterized by spectroscopic methods, such as UV/Vis, IR and EPR, mass spectrometry (ESI-MS) and thermogravimetric analyses, as well as X-ray diffraction, when possible. They will also have their superficial area determined by gas adsorption e will have their magnetic properties investigated by SQUID magnetometry. It is intended to verify their strucutral characteristics and relate to the magnetic measurements. Simultaneously, it is also intended to verify through theoretical simulations, with Prof Helena M. Petrilli group collaboration, possible interactions between metal centers and relate with the structure and reactivity. (AU)
