Abstract

Adolescence comprises an age group between 10 and 19 years and covers a set of physical, psychic and social changes. According to the World Health Organization, approximately 20% of children and adolescents present some mental health problem, being the depressive disorder one of the most prevalent. Depressive symptoms in adolescents are the same as in adults with impairments in several areas of life, yet individuals at this stage may present irritation and instability as additional symptoms. Considering the high prevalence rates of depressive symptoms in adolescents and the great losses that these symptoms bring to the individual, this study aims to identify depressive symptoms in adolescents of 13 years of public schools of Ribeirão Preto, who answered the Inventory of Child Depression [ICD]. The analysis will be performed through a database of the Laboratório de Pesquisa e Intervenção Cognitivo-Comportamental [LaPICC] of the University of São Paulo, based on the use of descriptive statistics. Therefore, it is expected that the knowledge will be expanded and contribute with the offer of subsidies for the adoption of preventive actions and treatment of this pathology, for this specific population.
