Abstract

The experimental modal analysis, which measures experimentally applied excitation as well as the resulting structural response, is very effective for most of the existing situations and it can deliver reliable and precise data if it is done properly. Usually, the procedure is accomplished in ideal conditions for the analysis, this provides a greater control of the experiment and therefore a greater repeat ability of results, but, many times, it demands a lot of time and money due to the degree of accuracy normally expected, difficulty in determining the best position of transducers and, consequently, the amount of expensive equipment that is needed for the test. In order to meet the industry conditions, namely, faster and cheaper and still supplying the needs, there is an alternative for the experimental modal analysis called operational modal analysis, in which, usually, the structure excitation is performed by the environment where the structure is inserted, however it is not measured like in the former case, the only measured data is the response provided by the structure. This allows an analysis including the real working conditions of the structure and a little less time for it to be done, but, even so, for bigger or more complex structures the time still is relatively long and with considerable cost. This scientific initiation research project aims to study methods of operational modal analysis using techniques of computational vision. (AU)
