Abstract

Fibromyalgia (FM) is a chronic rheumatic disease of uncertain etiology, known as to cause great impact on one's quality of life and which has been related to central sensitization. This study aims to evaluate the effects of Pain Neuroscience Education (PNE) with hydrotherapy in comparison with hydrotherapy alone in pain and quality of life of women with fibromyalgia. For this purpose, 28 women diagnosed with FM will be divided into two groups for each of the treatments. They will all be assessed for Pressure Pain Threshold and the Medical Outcomes Study 36 - Item Short-Form Health Survey (SF-36), together with Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire (FIQ), during, immediately after and 12 weeks after finishing treatment. Data obtained will be recorded with an Excel sheet and analyzed with the Statistica Software. Data will be verified for normality by Shapiro-Wilk' test. For intragroup comparisons a Student t test will be used in parametric data and Wilcoxon test in nonparametric ones, while ANOVA test will be used in comparisons between groups. For all of them, a significance level ± < 0.05 will be considered. (AU)
