Abstract

This project aims to develop a methodology to manufacture portable electrochemical sensors on cellulosic substrates using surface-induced laser pyrolysis as a method to produce the electrodes on the paper surface. Such sensors will be modified by the incorporation of metallic elements - previously or during the manufacturing steps - or modify the electrodes subsequently, in order to provide electrocatalytic properties, better detectability or even more versatility in the analysis of environmental samples. The low manufacturing cost and the inherent portability of the devices will provide the analysis directly on-site to detect and /or monitor the toxic or hazardous compounds in the environment, such as pollutants, pesticides or relevant species for quality of water.
