Abstract

In this project, the Ni-Cu and Ni-Cu-P alloys will be investigated due to their attractive characteristics (corrosion resistance, hardness). In general, the baths used in the electrodeposition of Ni-Cu are based on citrate, which are not stable, or modified watts which require additives to avoid the formation of dendrites. There are few works about the electrodeposition of Ni-Cu-P, because this alloy is usually obtained via electroless. Thus, in this project an alternative strategy is proposed in which aspartic acid an environmentally friendly complexing agent of the cations of interest will be used in the electrodeposition baths of Ni-Cu and Ni-Cu-P. Our research group has experience on this additive in Cu-Sn and Cu-Sn-Ni electrodeposits. The electrodeposition baths will be characterized by by spectrophotometric and potentiometric techniques and C, N, H, O elementar analysis; the electrodeposition processes will be investigated by potentiodynamic, galvanostatic, potentiostatic and potential pulses techniques; the electrodeposits will be characterized by SEM, EDS, XRD, LSCM, microhardness, adherence, stripping voltammetry and corrosion tests by open circuit potential, polarization curves and electrochemical impedance techniques. The combination of these techniques will allow the proposition of a mechanism for the electrodeposition and electrodissolution of the alloys and the search for electrodeposits showing good characteristics.
