Abstract

The proposed postdoctoral project is part of the FAPESP thematic project 2013/24215-6 (PCPB a Crust and Upper Mantle Seismic Structure and Evolution) under coordination of IAG/USP with cooperation of INPE and several national and international research institutions. The main objective of the thematic project is the evolutionary study of the geotectonic structure and geodynamic of the upper mantle and terrestrial crust in the sedimentary basins Pantanal-Chaco-Parana (PCB), particularly in the western of Brazil and adjacent regions in the neighboring countries. The researches concerning to geodynamic study and the crust deformation in development at INPE involve the analyses of geodetic coordinate time series estimated from observations collected in a network with approximately 60 continuous GNSS stations. The coordinate time series will be obtained based on processing from the scientific software Bernese that allows correcting rigorously the atmospheric and geodynamic effects involved with GNSS, as for instance, atmospheric effects (Troposphere and Ionosphere), Earth Body Tide, Ocean Tide and Atmospheric Loading, among other deformations affecting the earth crust. Nevertheless, not all phenomena occurring in specific regions of the planet can be taken into account, as for example, the hydrologic load, seismicity effects and others. Such phenomena can be assessed and characterized based on analysis of the coordinates time series estimated from a geodetic network. Within this context the postdoctoral project to be carried out at INPE aims to investigate geodynamical parameters and crustal deformations based on GNSS coordinate time series analyzes of the active geodetic network installed in the region of the PCP sedimentary basin. The functional and stochastic models of the estimated time series will be investigated in order to characterize the noise present in the time series in function of non-modeled geodynamic phenomena in the GNSS data processing. The time series analysis will provide the estimation of the station velocity field and correlations with measurements from seismograph will be analyzed aiming the differential horizontal monitoring of the stations. Additionally, gravity measurements will be used to investigation of the local geoid model, as well as research on the response of the earth's crust to the effects caused by tidal potential. The researches to be developed in the postdoctoral project will support the elaboration of the deformation dynamic models in the PCB basins aiming to infer the rheology and tectonic structuring as well as other correlations such as elastic thickness, plate undulation among other that makes part of broader researches within the context of FAPESP thematic project.
