Abstract

The object of study of this research project is the social representation of blacks in contemporary Brazilian teledramaturgy, through the analysis of the novels Side by Side (2012) and Babilônia (2015). We consider the last five years as a period marked by a large and important debate on race relations in Brazil, especially regarding the implementation of public policies for the black population. And this socio-political context is important for the analysis that we will carry out in this research. Our general objective is to understand how the black has been represented in the selected soap operas and, more specifically, within each of the two productions: a) to understand what is and how the protagonism of the black characters takes place; b) what is the relation of the black characters with the other nuclei of the plot and with the general plot; and c) to what extent these productions incorporated the political debates of the time. In methodological terms, the analysis will take place through Content Analysis and also the theoretical contributions of Cultural and Postcolonial Studies. (AU)
