Abstract

In Brazil, currently indispensable measuring instruments for the activities of quality control and dosimetry of medical equipment, such as ionization chambers, voltage and time of exposure meters, as well as the phantoms are mostly imported and of high cost. In addition, the few national materials available do not cover all the needs of the internal market in this area, reinforcing the need for imports. The same is true of tissue simulators that must be used in quality control routines and radiological protection in Medicine. The general objective of this work is supporting the characterization of phantoms with transmission and scattering properties equivalent to human tissue for dose studies of patients in the range of radiation energies used in diagnostic imaging. The materials to be evaluated are being developed in the Productivity Project in Technological Development and Extension CNPq / DT of the advisor / proponent. These materials do not have national similarities, and even those available on the market outside Brazil are not adequately characterized for a good representation of attenuation and scattering properties of ionizing radiation in the range of energies used in diagnostic imaging (5-150 keV). In this way, the relevance of this work is concentrated in the domain of the elaboration and the characterization of these types of materials, as well as in the construction of prototypes that will be validated experimentally. With this, the student, besides having the opportunity to familiarize herself with experimental techniques, can participate in the productive process of these potential products. (AU)
