Abstract

The objective of this work is to study orbital maneuvers that can be performed by a passage of the vehicle by a celestial body and with the help of cables or impulsive propulsion. It will be considered that the space vehicle can move in the three dimensional space, thus allowing the change of the orbital plane. Two main options will be considered: i) "propelled Swing-By", which consists of a passage by a celestial body combined with the application of an impulsive maneuver in the spacecraft; and ii) maneuvers with "Tethered Assisted Swing-by", consisting in the combination of the "purely gravitational swing-by" with the slingshot effect that a tether attached to the surface of a body with a spacecraft attached at the other end, may cause. Both maneuvers cause change in the trajectory of the spacecraft. During the master and doctorate programs, the candidate studied several planar versions of this problem, publishing several papers (Ferreira et al. (2016a), Ferreira et al. (2015a), Ferreira et al. (2015b), Santos e Ferreira (2015), Burov et al. (2015), Ferraz et al. (2014a), Ferraz et al. (2014b), Ferreira et al (2014), Silva et al. (2014a), Silva et al. (2014b), Silva et al. (2013a), Silva et al. (2013b), Silva et al. (2013c), Silva et al. (2013d), Silva et al. (2012)); submitted others (Ferreira et al. (2016b), Ferreira et al. (2016c)) and is in the final stage of some more submissions (Ferreira et al. (2016d), Ferreira et al. (2016e), Ferreira et al. (2016f)). These topics are of great interest, as shown by the researches based in the first publications of the candidate performed in major research centers (Yamasaki et al., 2016). In this proposal, it is intended to generalize these concepts for maneuvering the spacecraft in three dimensions in order to change the inclination of the orbit of the spacecraft. That makes this proposal a great opportunity to contribute to the general knowledge of orbital maneuvers, on a topic that has already obtained many publications, as well as to generate solutions that can be used in actual missions, such as the Aster mission.
