Abstract

Recently, obesity has becoming one of the most important health problems in the world, mainly morbid obesity. Bariatric surgery has been the best solution to this disease, solving great part of the problems that run together obesity. Besides, concerning the liver, through biopsys, some papers showed improvement in the liver histological structure after gastroplasty. However, among conventional liver function tests, none are able to detect that, probably due to the great amount of functional reserve that liver has. Meanwhile, we know that obese individuals have an impairment of hepatic reserve and we holpe an improvement of such condition after gastroplasty, in addition to histological structure and comorbidities. The successful use of clearance of the indocyanine green (ICG) to measure the liver functional reserve before hepatectomy enabled us to think that such method could be useful to detect the improvement of hepatic function reserve of patients who was underwent to gastroplasty. So this project has the aim to evaluate the hepatic functional reserve in obese patients undergoing bariatric surgery using indocyanine green. Methods: assessment of the clearance of ICG in 30 individuals before gastroplasty and 30 days, 3 months, 6 months and 12 months after surgery, by pulse spectrophotometer. In addition, we will be measured weight, body mass index (BMI), blood pressure, glycemia, insulin, glycated hemoglobin, adiponectin, serum bilirubin, alkaline phosphatase, gamma glutamyltransferase, V factor, RNI and liver function tests. Results: at this moment, the number of patients included in the study does not allow an adequate statistical evaluation yet. (AU)
