Abstract

Rats submitted to the diet deficient in Vitamin D3 (Vit.D3) during gestation and lactation present pups with changes in renal development that persist in adult life. However, no studies have yet been performed to analyze the events related to these changes and the mechanisms involved. This study aims to analyze the influence of Vit.D3 deficiency on changes in renal development and its consequences in adult life. Evaluations of renal function and structure and blood pressure of the offspring of mothers submitted to the standard diet and of mothers who received Vit.D3-deficient diet during the gestation and lactation periods at 21, 90 and 120 days of age treated or not with calcitriol after lactation. Vit.D3 levels will be determined in serum samples collected at these times and the kidneys removed for histological studies, transmission electron microscopy, immunohistochemical, morphometric and western blot analysis.
