Abstract

Illiteracy is a problem that affects 7.4% of the Brazilian population aged 15 or over. Many studies show the influence of schooling on several cognitive functions, so the importance of a language evaluation that can be based on reliable parameters for illiterate patients and the care with this evaluation, mainly for the formalization of the tests and for the clinician can imagine what the patient was able to do before brain injuries, avoiding false positive results. This study aims to verify the performance of illiterate individuals in the linguistic tasks evaluated by the MTL-Brazil language battery, and to obtain data that can be used as clinical parameters in the assessments of illiterate aphasic subjects. It will be evaluated 30 illiterate individuals, male or female and over 18 years and less than 60 years. All will be submitted to language assessment battery (MTL-Brazil). In this study, the reading and writing tests that are on the battery will not be performed. We hope that the results of this research will allow a better knowledge about the subject, besides obtaining clinical parameters that can be used in the evaluation of aphasic illiterate subjects.
