Abstract

The six-minute walk test (6MWT) has been used as an instrument to assess functional capacity in different clinical conditions. In the walking test, the first minute recovery heart rate (HRR) and the HR minute delta recovery (HRR2) as well as walking distance are indicated as markers of severity and mortality in patients with severe heart failure (HF). The aim of the present study is to investigate the role of these variables as prognostic markers of patients with moderate HF for cardiac events and death at 12 months of follow-up as well as the recovery time between HR peak and rest HR (HRR).Method: Fifty patients with moderate NYHA functional class II HF and 15 healthy subjects, aged 20 years or older, both sexes and submitted to Doppler echocardiography, physical examination, anamnesis and the 6MWT will be evaluated. Subjects will be monitored for 12 months for cardiac events (hospitalization for cardiac decompensation, cardiogenic pulmonary congestion) and death. We will use the receive-operator curve (ROC) to assess the sensitivity and specificity and possible associations between walking distance, HRR1, HRR2 and THRR. The present study intends to test possible predictive variables of cardiac events and mortality in patients with moderate HF from physiological responses to 6MWT and 12-month follow-up. (AU)
