Abstract

The curative and palliative care must go together and with the worsening or complication of the disease, communication will become an important tool to achieve success in treatment. The process of communicating bad news is a complex activity that requires knowledge, expertise and skill. This research aims to know the meanings attributed by nurses of units of neonatal intensive care to the communication of bad news to the family of the newborn in palliative care. The qualitative descriptive methodology will be used, and the data will be collected through semi-structured interviews, following the following inclusion criteria: that the nurse is working in a NICU; who has provided direct care to the newborn in palliative care and his family during and after the process of reporting bad news. Data analysis will be performed by content analysis, with the development of thematic categories. This research hopes to promote a space where professionals can reflect on the care offered to the RN in CP and his family during the process of communicating bad news. The results will broaden the knowledge on the subject and will pave the way for new research that addresses the theme of the communication of bad news, neonatal nursing and palliative care, as well as directing the construction and proposition of interventions in this area of knowledge, expanding and improving even more The field of action of the nurses.
