Abstract

Halitosis is defined as an offensive breath odor that could be present in individuals with Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD). There are few studies that relate CKD to halitosis and there are no studies in the literature that relate halitosis to individuals with CKD and his impact on quality of life (QoL). This project aims to identify volatile sulfur compounds (VSC) in patients with CKD undergoing hemodialysis, and to determine the relationship between VSC, CKD, oral health and QoL through a cross-sectional study, compound by a study group of individuals with CKD and a control group matched by sex and age. The groups will be subjected to halimetry using a chromatograph, OralChroma® equipment, organoleptic test, questionnaire Oral Health Impact Profile (OHIP-14) and a questionnaire about global QoL (SF-36), dental evaluation - caries activity (DMFT), periodontal evaluation - community periodontal index (CPI), bacterial plaque index, tongue biofilm index, gingival index, edentulism evaluation, mechanically stimulated and unstimulated sialometry, xerostomia inventory, salivary pH, urea and ammoniaserum and salivary. The data will be collected, tabulated and analyzed by the statistical "t" test of student (p <0.05%). (AU)
