Abstract The project aims to analyze 15 (fifteen) critical texts of Fernando Manuel de Mendonça (1918-2002), published in the "Suplemento Literário" of O Estado de São Paulo between 1963 and 1968, with the purpose of identifying the method used by the critic based on the verification of the constituent procedures of the analysis, evaluation and exposure inherent in his reading exercise. In a Brazilian newspaper of great circulation, Fernando Mendonça exerted the literary criticism divulging authors and commenting works of Contemporary Portuguese Literature. Its tarts from the hypothesis that there is a rupture with the critical processes and hitherto absolute aesthetic standards, through a dialogue that makes room to new methods of commenting texts. The critical effort of Fernando Manuel de Mendonça in the pages of the "Suplemento Literário" - already little known and not yet studied - is an important material for thinking contemporary Portuguese Literature. Thus, the fundamental elements of his writing will contemplate the discussion and the problematization of methodological aspects, such as the systematization of authors and works, the nature of the emphasized aspects, the observation of the analytical categories, terms and literary concepts employed and the identification of the conception of literature, based in papers which present broad reflection about these elements, in special Auerbach (1946), Spitzer (1948), Kayzer (1968), Tadié (1987), Candido (1988), Burgés (1997), Richards(1997), Warren and Wellek (2003) and Rallo (2005).
