Abstract

During the division of the Paraná Basin during the Devonian, the Alto Garças Sub-basin was deposited to the north of the basin, while the Apucarana Sub-basin was deposited to the south. The Alto Garças Sub-basin, which evolved in a shallower sedimentation environment with large amounts of sandstones and siltstones, is composed of Units 1, 2 (both of interest in the present study), 3 and 4. There are less studies on the Devonian paleoflora of the Paraná Basin than there are about its paleofauna. The shortage of works that approach the fossil plants of this basin, added to the difficulty of preserving a fossil plant, contributed to the controversies in the stratigraphic position of the vegetal remains found in the two new outcrops, located in Jaciara / MT. In this way, this work was elaborated in order to make a taphonomic approach by means of vegetal remains found in outcrops that belong to Units 1 and 2 of the Alto Garças Sub-basin (Chapada Group), creating subsidies for the description of a taphonomic vegetal facies, and with that, contribute to new studies about the stratigraphy of these outcrops.
