Abstract

This work will evaluate the shear strength of expanded polystyrene (EPS) at different densities: 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30 Kg/m3. The tests will be carried out in different configurations in order to contemplate the possible field situations that may occur during their applications. Thus, it will evaluate the interface and internal strength of EPS as well with geomembranes interfaces (smooth and textured). In this context, the tests will be performed with the dried and saturated samples to verify the effect of moisture. The results will be evaluated in terms of peak and residual resistance envelopes. Therefore, this work aims to provide more information on the behavior of shear strength of EPS in different situations of use in geotechnical works and complements the previous works approved by FAPESP (process numbers: 2015/12450-6 and 2016/13108-2).
