Abstract

Neospora caninum is an obligate intracellular parasite that infects domestic and wild animals and has worldwide distribution. It is responsible for high economic losses in cattle worldwide, mainly dairy cows, due to reproductive disorders. Cattle can be infected horizontally or vertically, being the second way the main form of parasite maintenance in the herd. Evaluation of serum occurrence is necessary to determine the distribution of the parasite in the Brazilian territory, besides determining the association with reproductive problems, aiming to elaborate preventive measures to reduce the economic impact of the disease. The present project aims to evaluate the association of reproductive problems with N. caninum infection in dairy cows in Ourinhos-SP and region and to determine risk factors involved by means immunofluorescence antibody test and the application of an epidemiological questionnaire.
