Abstract

This project aims to investigate the way in which guidelines developed by Christian religions or Christian environmental movements in Brazil seek to give meaning to the adoption of ecologically correct conduct. The research is planned, on the one hand, to examine what symbolic resources are mobilized in each religious circle in order to motivate environmental awareness; to analyze whether the focus is on the theological repertoire or on secular categories; to identify what connections are made between religious identity and environmental engagement; what sense is given to the expression "ecologically correct"; and what conception of "nature" is at stake when one says that is necessary to protect it. On the other hand, will also be analyzed the structures that are mobilized by religious environmental initiatives within the churches or in the associative networks that go beyond the denominational circle.
