Abstract

This research aims at analysing the invocations found in the Greek Magical Papyri. The invocations will be analysed according to vocabulary usage (forms of address, epithets, compound nouns, verbs, etc.) and syntax (use of cases e specific constructions found in magical papyri). The analysis focus on the spells from the GMP and uses the Homeric poems as a source of comparison in order to establish the main features of the invocations in the GMP and the ways in which they relate to invocations found in texts associated to earlier Greek religion.
