Abstract

The research project "The first studio of TAM: artistic utopia in the context of war" brings an innovative approach in the studies of Russian Theatrical Studio created in 1912 by Konstantin Stanislávski (1863-1938) and Leopold Sulerzhítski (1872-1916). The act of opposing the First Studio to the warlike context established by the outbreak of World War I in 1914 allows a reflection on the humanist role occupied by Russian art in the early twentieth century. Through the translation of still unpublished archives and newly published texts in Russia on the subject, it is intended to understand the interrelationships established between the first studio and the Russian reality of this pre-revolutionary context, the repercussion of criticism and the public in relation to the four pieces presented between 1913 and 1917 and to what extent this laboratorial space managed to realize its desire to perfect man not only as an actor-creator, but also, and above all, as a human being. Reading and dialogue with the critical and theoretical mass of the Russian researchers Serguei Tcherkassky, Pavel Márkov, Konstantin Rudnítsky and Inna Soloviova - still unpublished in Portuguese - will allow the expansion of the knowledge about the Stanislavskys System, the initial course of the actor-creator Michael Chekhov and the artistic utopia of the first studio, which existed at a time when everything was contrary to the beauty, the harmony and the ethical and aesthetic values present there.
