Abstract

The thesauri and documentary languages makeup the substrate of professional praxis in the area of Information Science, using linguistic contributions for the construction of Knowledge Organization Systems. From the technological development, new instruments of representation organization and representation have been proposed, provoking convergences between theoretical and methodological contributions of diverse scientific fields, in order to meet the informational demands of a society increasingly based on virtual interactions. Among the new representation tools, the Simple Knowledge Organization System (SKOS) has stood out as a data model that makes it possible to formally represent controlled vocabularies in digital environments. The use of the SKOS standard allows conceptual resources to be referenced from applications based technologies that enable the semantic aspects of content to be exploited. The proposed project aims to evaluate the use of the Simple Knowledge Organization System (SKOS) standard for the conversion of controlled vocabularies in digital environments from the representation of category 'Information and Strategic Knowledge in Organizations', of the Brazilian Thesaurus of Information Science, in a micro-thesauri based on the SKOS standard. Considering the need for a better understanding of this model, it is proposed to carry out a theoretical and methodological research, with a qualitative and exploratory approach, which proposes to examine the themes of representation, organization, semantic technologies and the availability of vocabularies in environments digital images. We highlight the relevance of the research, considering that the SKOS model calls for the emergence of a new field of research that is eminently interdisciplinary, capable of engendering a new epistemological constellation in the field of Organization and Representation of Information, pointing out innovative perspectives and new possibilities in the professional field of Information Science.
