Abstract

Legal veterinary medicine has been of great importance for recent times, and is due to the fact of increasing the number of lawsuits for medical error, animal maltreatment, environment, public health and many others. Although in veterinary medicine no case or exhumation techniques were found for a determination of the cause of death and its legislative aspects, in an expert study with previously intoxicated exhumed rats it was observed that it is possible to detect exogenous intoxication through collection of already decomposing tissues. An exhumation and a process widely used in legal medicine and is of great importance for investigation in cases of doubts about the cause of the death of an already deceased being due to a necropsy before burial or in cases of hypothesis collection after a inumation. In many cases of exhumation, a response on determining the cause of death, it is possible to observe tissue pathologies and obtain more information from an exhumed body. The present study aims to describe exhuming technicians in companion animals performed at the Serviço de Patologia Animal da Faculdade de Medicina Veterinária da Universidadede São Paulo Animal - FMVZ / USP, to transcribe the legal resources of the exhumation for veterinary and veterinary medicine how much it can contribute to the recognition of the cause of death and main diseases of the animals.
