Abstract

This document sustains my application for a BPE grant from Fapesp at the Department of Political Science at the University of California Berkeley, when I intend to develop a new phase of my current research project between February and December 2019. In order to support this request, the objectives, the contribution to the literature and the results already achieved by the research. Next, I specify the contribution of the stay abroad and the results to be obtained. The period in the Department of Political Science at the University of California Berkeley in 2019 will be dedicated to developing a new phase of my current research project, in consolidating and internationalizing the results of my research on politics and urban politics held at the Center for Metropolis Studies (Cepid/Fapesp). The research investigates the specificities of politics and politics in large metropolis, within a network of comparative research focused in São Paulo, London, Paris, Mexico City and Milan, being the study of the capital of São Paulo developed by my team. This research is in an advanced stage, with the publication in the last years of articles and books in Portuguese and in English, as well as dissertations of masters, doctorates and a postdoctoral. It is no exaggeration to say that we have contributed collectively to renewing the national agenda on politics and politics in cities, in dialogue with the work of partners searching other cities. During the period in Berkeley, I will undertake various activities, beginning with a bibliographical dive into the American production on urban politics, from the classics on political machines to contemporary discussions. In addition and participation in scientific events, I mainly intend to exchange academic and discussion with colleagues at the University. UC Berkeley's academic environment makes it one of the ideal locations for such activities. In terms of scientific production, I plan to write two articles in English, in addition to translating for publication in English the book that we will publish in 2018 by Editora Unesp. As I hope to be able to make explicit, my national and international activities and partnerships of recent years make this sabbatical period strategic for absorption and dialogue with the North American tradition, while at the same time facilitating the internationalization of research results, increasing the repercussion of production and leveraging potentially the student circulation.
