Abstract

Recovering galaxies' formation histories and evolution using a combination of parametric and non-parametric fits of their multi-band-photometry is a novel and promising field in astronomy. Using multi band photometry of the galaxy NGC 3115, as observed with several telescopes at various wavelenghts, from ultraviolet to infrared data, we intend to mimic the study of multi-wavelength images as will be obtained from new surveys, such as J-PLUS, S-PLUS and J-PAS. Results from this work will be used to calibrate and test a new method to combine parametric and non-parametric fits of the galaxy light. In particular we will use two recently released codes to perform simultaneous parametric multi-band fitting (GALFITM) and non-parametric fit (MRFMTK). We will explore which combination of the fitted parameters allows us to recover the galaxy age and metallicity, as already calculated with MUSE-IFU data, and identify galaxies' features such as faint companions, tails and to characterize the galaxy as a whole.
