Abstract

The research will be focused on the study of the optical effect of Upconversion (UC) on nanoparticles doped with rare-earths. In these materials, the successive absorption of two or more low energy photons (infrared) stimulate the emission of higher energy photons (visible). Depending on the composition (doping with rare-earth), different emission lines in the visible spectrum can be stimulated. The UC phenomenon in nanoparticles (UCNPs) has unique properties. In particular, the thermal sensitivity of depend heavily on the size and structure of UCNPs. Recently, it was found that in UCNPs with less than 20-30 nm the increase in temperature produces an increase in the emission intensity; however, for particles, the thermal effect and the opposite, and a reduction of the intensity emitted to higher temperatures. In this project, we will continue with the research already started using electrothermal devices based on AgNWs and UCNPs. In particular, the effects of thermal saturation and bistability observed in some of the emission lines. We will also work on the synthesis and characterization of UCNPs of ultra-high thermal sensitivity. These UCNPs will be applied in nanotermometry measurements on networks of AgNWs using the technique of hyperspectral microscopy. Expected results will be relevant for solar-cell applications, displays, biomarkers, optical encryption technologies, and nanotermometry, among others. (AU)
