Abstract

The aim of this study will be to evaluate the effectiveness of antibacterial photodynamic therapy (aPDT) in the treatment of osteonecrosis lesions caused by zolendronate-induced antiresorptive medications and rat upper first molar extraction. The soft tissues of the lesion region will be evaluated by clinical observation and the hard tissues by digital radiographs. The study will be in vivo with 24Wistar rats where MRONJ will be induced by the administration of zolendronate (0.06mg / kg), a potent anti-resorptive medication, in response to upper molar extraction. The animals will be divided into two groups: Control group (12 samples): only conventional MRONJ treatment (e.g. bone debridement); aPDT group (12 samples): conventional treatment of MRONJ followed by aPDT. The animals will be evaluated clinically 4 weeks after the extraction when the treatments will be performed and, clinically and radiographically at 4 and 8 3weeks after the treatments. Specimens from euthanized animals will be radiographed by digital radiography, which will be evaluated by ImageJ. The data will be analyzed statistically (p 0.05). (AU)
