Abstract

The UN set as goal, in 2000, to halve by 2015 the number of people who do not have access to a potable water and sanitation basin. The government of Benin, with the support of the International Drinking Water Decade, has improved its amount of drinking water through the construction of water points in order to reduce diarrheal diseases. The present study evaluates the empowerment of local communities in water use and deal with waterborne diseases in the municipality of Dassa-zoumé (Benin). For this, the main problem to be analyzed will be the relationship between access to water and the persistence of diarrheal diseases in the study environment. (AU)
