Abstract

Neospora caninum is an obligate intracellular parasite that infects domestic and wild animals and has worldwide distribution. Neosporosis is responsible for high losses in world cattle, while in equines, little is known about the epidemiology of the disease, with some studies suggesting it is also associated with reproductive problems. Serum occurrence analysis is necessary to determine the distribution of the parasite in the Brazilian territory, also to determine the association with reproductive problems, aiming to develop preventive measures to decrease the economic impact of the disease. The present project aims to evaluate the association of reproductive problems with N. caninum infection in mares and to determine risk factors associated with the parasitic infection. (AU)
