Abstract

The characterization of several accessions of Paspalum virgatum (razor-grass) will allow to describe morphological and anatomical features, such as number of fruits per spikelet, cuticle thickness, numbers of trichomes, among others. Which may be important for the elaboration of management strategies, once they can affect the effectiveness of herbicides. In this sense, the objective of this work is to identify and characterize access to razor-grass (Paspalum virgatum) from different Brazilian locations and to correlate the morphological, anatomical and genetic characteristics of the accesses with the herbicide efficacy for post-emergence control. The characterization of the accesses will be performed through chromosome (karyotyping), anatomical (adaxial and abaxial epidermis thickness, parenchyma thickness, main vein width and vascular bundle length and width) and morphological (leaf length and width, foliar insertion, ligule shape, presence of bristles and trichomes, length and width of glumes) studies. The total relative content of chlorophyll will be determined, and the control effectiveness of the herbicides imazethapyr and cletodim will be evaluated after the plants achieve the vegetative and reproductive stages. The data will be submitted to analysis of variance by the F test and, if there is significance, the means will be compared by the Tukey's test. The mean values of control data, quantitative anatomical and foliar morphological characteristics will be submitted to multivariate analysis.
