Abstract

The economic and political crisis that Brazil faces affects daily several sectors of society, reaching also the representative entities. In this sense, this research project seeks to reflect on the impacts of this crisis on the representation and performance of the trade union movement, aiming, as a general objective, to analyze the trajectory of cutista metallurgical syndicalism. The central hypothesis that sustains this objective is that the CUT faces in this scenario a crisis of representativeness that has its roots in the bureaucratization and the linkage of the union structures to the structures of government. Two other hypotheses stand out: there are at least two distinct intellectual interpretations, linked to USP and Unicamp, about the moment by which Brazilian syndicalism passes; and that the response given to the crisis by trade unionism was in the sense of political formation and creation of groups with identity issues.
