Abstract

The parasitic diseases that present zoonotic potential are of high interest in veterinary medicine. In addition to the risks to public health, they can lead to severe clinical manifestations, especially in puppies. In canines, two parasitosis that infect humans deserve special mention: cryptosporidiosis and giardiasis, which are often underdiagnosed. The objective of this work will investigate infection by Cryptosporidium spp. and Giardia spp. in dogs through parasitological and molecular techniques. A total of 100 canines, up to one year old, will be examined. For the detection of Cryptosporidium spp. and Giardia spp will perform the techniques of malachite green and zinc sulfate, respectively. These samples will be processed for molecular testing by means of the polymerase chain reaction with subsequent sequencing of the amplified fragments. The statistical analysis will consist of the chi-square test to verify the association of said enteroparasite in relation to the sex, breed and age of the animals examined.
