Abstract

This present project propose the interpretation of geological records during the middle Eocene collected in three different regions of the world (Eastern Turkey, Northeastern Italy and Western Equatorial Indian Ocean) applying a statistical approach with emphasis in cluster analysis. The project will use data based on magnetic, mineralogic, biostratigraphic and geochemistry properties which will be submitted to statistical algorithms capable of generate patterns of clustering based on their similarities. The obtained results will be interpreted for identify the influence of different climatic and oceanographic process on the geological record for each region. Ultimately the project will focus in establishing a correlation between the three study regions and the influence of the Middle Eocene Climatic Optimum (MECO).
